About Me

Joshua Taylor, Jr.

Josh brings to his programs and assignments a background of over thirty-years experience in photography, including newspaper and magazine photography, teaching, and workshops.

With emphasis on the success of the photographer, workshop participants describe his workshops as fun-filled, exciting with emphasis not only on techniques but on results. Josh is a published, award-winning photographer who specializes in nature, landscape, and garden photography workshops. He has integrated computer graphics with photography to produce captivating on-screen images and handouts to clarify concepts and to present information.

Josh has presented workshops at the Smithsonian National Orchid Show, Longwood Gardens, U.S. National Arboretum, U.S. Botanic Garden, Brookside Gardens, Virginia State Arboretum (Blandy Farm), American Horticultural Society Garden School, and Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.

In addition to teaching in the Smithsonian Studio Arts Program and a Canon camera instructor, Josh speaks at camera and garden clubs, judges photographic competitions, and exhibits his photographs in gallery shows. He is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association, National Association of Photoshop Professionals, Garden Writers Association, former member Fujifilm Talent Team, and a member and past president of the Northern Virginia Photographic Society. Josh was voted best garden club speaker in 2005 and was a judge for the 2009 Garden Writers Association National Media Awards.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Josh’s passion for the craft of photography is the inspiration for his photographic images. His compelling images of architecture, garden and outdoor subjects convey his passion.  He hopes that his images will inspire, captivate, and teach others to experience his joy and love of photography. Through his insight and visual perception, common sights in the man-made and natural environment become more meaningful and take on greater significance. In other words, the ordinary becomes the extraordinary through Josh’s photographic vision and personal style. In his work, he wants the viewer to see that a “good” photograph doesn’t just happen; rather, it is made by the photographer.

A workshop participant wrote, "Josh is a born teacher, and puts everyone in a good mood because he actually empowers his pupils. Bravo! Such a rare talent to teach photography."
